Kisumu West Member of Parliament (MP) Olago Aluoch has now responded over the complaints from a section of residents of Mambolea – Kisumu county on the poor state of Kanyamedha – Riat Airport road.
Speaking to aowapress24.com, the lawmaker said that the road in question is under Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA) which is not under the Constituency.
The road according to Mr. Olago partly extends to Kisumu West constituency with a larger area in Kisumu Central constituency.
“That road falls in Kisumu Central and there’s a small cross section of about a half kilometer in Kisumu West which needs to be done by KURA.” He noted.

Mr. Aluoch however said that they are in talks with his counterpart Fred Ouda, Member of Parliament Kisumu Central constituency to have the road tammacked.
“We have been pushing, both me and Fred Ouda for them to upgrade it but they haven’t done that yet.” Mr. Olago said.
The legislature promised that they will keep pushing KURA to tammack the road adding that it is the only shortest connection from Kakamega side to the airport.

The road has remained impassable for a couple of months following the heavy rains in the area with locals now calling for immediate interventions.
Speaking to Aowapress24, a local resident hinted that despite being the only alternative road to the airport, the road has remained unattended to for years despite reaching out to concerned leaders.
“…It has never been developed despite the fact that it’s the only alternative road to the airport.” He said.
The residents are worried that should there be closure of Kisumu – Busia road for any emerging issues, then there will be no alternative road since the road is impassable.
Their plea to have the road worked on has been futile after what they termed as lack of seriousness and neglegence from local leaders.
Our trials to reach out to Kisumu Central constituency (MP) Fred Ouda did not work as the legislature failed to pick up our calls or responding to our text messages about the issue.
