President Uhuru Kenyatta names Robert Kibochi Kenyan chief of defence designate as Mwathethe’s tenure ends.

Lieutenant General Robert Kariuki Kibochi has been promoted General and named Kenyan Chief of Defence designate by president Kenyatta.

Uhuru also appointed lieutenant General Levi Mghalu as vice chief of Defence Forces designate.

Levi has been promoted from the rank of major General to lieutenant.

The changes are in preparation for the exit of the current chief of defence General Samson Mwathethe who has been in the position for five years since April 2015.

Major General Jimson Mutai has been named commander of the Kenya Navy designate.

Mutai has been promoted to major General from the rank brigadier.

According to a stament from state house on Thursday 30, the appointed officers are set to assume office under new position on May 11, 2020.

President Uhuru in his message thanked Mwathethe for his exemplary work for the past five years.
